Match Report: Wath Stars U11's 3-1 Elsecar Main JFC U11's

The Under 11's made the short journey to Wath Comprehensive School to take on Wath Stars, who we've had some great games with in recent years.

The boys started brightly and the home goalkeeper was forced into making some good early saves from both Jack Lumb & Lewis Peachey. After increasing pressure we took the lead after a corner broke to the edge of the box and George Taylor smashed in a lovely low drive into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. We then continued to press the home side and we created several chances to increase our lead before half-time, but unfortunately we failed to capitalise on a lot of pressure and we led 1-0 at half-time.

Coach's Pete & Rich were happy with the boys at half-time and we told the boys to expect a lot of pressure in the 2nd half, that we needed to continue to be strong in the tackle and keep on pressing the opposition. Ten minutes in however and the home side scored their equaliser from a breakaway after we lost the ball in midfield. We had several further chances to get back in front, but again some poor decisions not to pass and shoot instead proved costly as the home side broke away again to make it 2-1. The scoreline was a little unfair at this point after all the possession we'd had.

In pressing for an equaliser we left ourselves exposed a little more and Wath got a 3rd goal after a breakaway down the left hand side. 3-1 was the final score to the opposition and a little disappointing after two victories in the previous weeks. Lots to work on as always - pressing the opposition, finding our teammates when we are in possession of the ball and a better first touch for a few of the boys. On the plus side though the boys kept going right to the end and never gave in as always. We've now played 7 - won 3 and lost 4.

Man of the Match: Lucca Ciampracotti
