Match Report: Dodworth MW Under 11's Greys 7-10 Elsecar Main JFC Under 11's
(Cup Quarter Final)
If ever there was a junior game of football that would cause my hair to turn greyer than it already is or my heart to stop, but yet it would still be bursting with pride at the end of it, then this game was it.
On a very sticky and cloggy Dodworth pitch we set off well, but then went behind quite early when we allowed one of the opposition's strikers a free shot. And so the pattern of the game was set as we then went to 2-1 up with goals from Jacko and our 'new' secret star striker 'Noahino'. We then managed to concede just before half-time and it was 2-2 at the break.
And so into the 2nd half we went and the scoreline went as follows 3-2, 3-3, 4-3, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5, 6-5, 6-6, 6-7, 7-7 !!! At full-time my head was well & truly fried with what appeared to be mistake after mistake, but the lads were loving it - everyone one of them. However the one thing that our boys have is character - and they have it in bucket loads!
7-7 it was then at full time in normal time and into extra-time we went and - with the lads well & truly up for it - there was only ever going to be one outcome!!
Jack Lumb made it 8-7 to complete his hat-trick and then to cap off a memorable day Sid Paupe volleyed into the top corner from just inside the box and then minutes later Theo Southward won the ball off a defender and charged into the box like a man possessed before being brought down for a penalty. There was only ever going to be one person taking the penalty and Theo duly stepped home and very coolly stuck the ball in the bottom corner before a Ronaldo like celebration to round off a memorable game.
Phew I was knackered and ready for a beer!!
Goalscorers for Elsecar were Jack Lumb 3, Lucca Ciampracotti 3, Noah Mitchell 1, Brandon Strange 1, Sid Paupe 1 and Theo Southwards 1 (Pen)
Onto the semi-final this coming weekend at home to Worksop Boys & Girls Eagles 11.30am Kick Off - see you all there!
